Stream Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Legally

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Blueprint 3When Jay-Z’s latest offering, Blueprint 3 was leaked recently, the album immediately became the hottest thing on the Internet. Now you can check it out in its entirety without fear of prosecution or retribution by RIAA or thugs from Rock-A-Fella Records serving you up a Marcy Houses-style beatdown.

MTV has obtained the rights to stream Jay-Z’s eleventh studio album for a limited time, so if you want to hear it legally before the September 11th release date, check it out on MTV’s The Leak. After that, you’ll have to buy it.

Blueprint 3 features some of music’s hottest recording artists, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Alicia Keys. And from the biggest artists, to the hottest singles of the summer, Blueprint 3 includes songs like D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) and Run This Town, both of which are high on the charts right now. So give Jay-Z’s latest a listen and decide for yourself if it’s worth all the hype.

Lloyd’s Garage Debut Video: Factory Town

Monday, August 17th, 2009

From one of my new favorite bands, Lloyd’s Garage, a bluesy, swampy, stripped-down rock duo from Northern California, here’s the debut video from their upcoming album, From The Comfort Of Your Home.

The fruition of a year’s worth of writing and recording new material, From The Comfort Of Your Home is set to rock the indie music world with frontman Seth Heitzmann’s swamp-blues-inspired riffing and Lloyd Llewelyn’s impeccable timekeeping, bringing some much needed dirty-classic rock to the scene.

The band’s minimalist two-piece approach is refreshing and their southern-fried sound has way more life than your favorite emo band or euro-electronic new wave rehash. Heitzmann’s growling vocals combined with the band’s raucous intonations will make you feel like alligator wrestlin’, workin’ on the ol’ Studebaker, or maybe just chewin’ tobacco in the back of a 4×4 while shootin’ tin cans off of fence posts. Serious rock, broken down to the bare essentials, guitar, drums and vocals. It don’t get more Garage than Lloyd’s Garage.

Austin City Limits Music Festival

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Wrapping up the festival season for 2009 will be the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Pearl Jam will headline the grand finale on Sunday the 4th with Kings of Leon and Dave Matthews Band as the headliners on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. Maybe each festival’s booking agency is trying to outdo the others, and ACL is no exception. The long list of stellar acts set to perform includes Thievery Corporation, Levon Helm, Ben Harper, John Legend, Sonic Youth, Mos Def, and literally hundreds more.

Some of my favorite artists are listed on the ACL bill. In particular, I’d be interested in seeing Clutch, Eek-A-Mouse, Asleep At The Wheel, Heartless Bastards, Flogging Molly, and about a half-dozen more. But the act that I’m really looking forward to seeing is The Dead Weather, Jack White’s new collaboration with Alison Mosshart of the Kills and others. White, one of the busiest guys in rock, takes a literal back seat in this one, playing drums while Queens Of The Stone Age’s Dean Fertita handles the guitar duties.

Check out the full lineup on the Austin City Limits site. I’m sure there are about two dozen of your favorite acts playing this three-day extravaganza.

All Points West Music and Arts Festival

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Right Coast dwellers will be flocking to Liberty State Park for the All Points West Music and Arts Festival July 31st and August 1st and 2nd. The park will be rocking to the sounds of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Vampire Weekend on Friday, with Tool, My Bloody Valentine and Gogol Bordello on the main stage Saturday, and Coldplay, Echo and the Bunnymen and MGMT on Sunday. Beastie Boys were scheduled to headline the show on Friday, but with the announcement today of Adam MCA Yauch’s cancer treatment, the Beasties will be cancelling. Not sure if there’s a replacement act waiting in the wings yet.

All Points West has a deep lineup, maybe as deep as Lollapalooza (we’ll get to that one in an upcoming post). Check out the lineup page for a list of other standout acts including Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foxes, Q-Tip, Silversun Pickups, Tokyo Police Club and many more. One of my favorites from this lineup is …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. With possibly the longest name in rock, these guys aren’t making too many friends in the music-critic business because that name is a pain in the @$$ to type. Copy/paste I guess… anyway, sick lineup, huge show for the east-coast music fans to enjoy. Get out there and get your tickets.

MCA has Cancer, Beasties Cancel Tour, Postpone Album

Monday, July 20th, 2009

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — The Beastie Boys canceled all scheduled concerts and delayed their next album release while member Adam “MCA” Yauch is treated for a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland, Yauch says in a video statement to fans.

The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch will be treated for a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. “The good news is that they did scans of my whole body and it’s only localized in this one area and it’s not in a place that affects my voice,” Yauch says. “So, that’s nice. That’s convenient.”

The cancer is in his left parotid gland and “also in a lymph node right in that area,” he says. He will probably have surgery next week and radiation treatments afterward, he says.

Soundgarden B-Sides, Box Set in the Works?

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Recently, members of Soundgarden converged–sans frontman Chris Cornell–for a show at the Crocodile with Seattle music/grunge icon Tad Doyle filling in on vocals. It seems the show has sparked rumors of a Soundgarden reunion. Chris Cornell sat down with Rolling Stone magazine to set the record straight. According to RS, the band have been in discussions, but not about touring or recording. Instead, the talk is about a possible release of material, specifically B-sides or unreleased material.

“The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have,” Cornell says. “This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it’s time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out.”

While Cornell was steadfast in his denial that there is anything in the works with regard to future collaboration by the band, either live or on record, he didn’t rule out the possibility. When asked if he would consider reuniting with his former bandmates, Cornell responded “You never know.”

Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park will be the site of one of the summer’s biggest music and arts festivals. Outside Lands, a three-day festival featuring some of the biggest acts in the music business, will go down on August 28th, 29th and 30th and will offer more than just music and arts. Outside Lands will also include Eco-Lands, an interactive conservation happening.

The festival has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by utilizing available technologies and products such as a solar stage, solar cell phone charging stations, compostable serviceware, biodiesel generators and equipment and other alternative energy sources. For the eco-conscious fans and attendees, there will be an extensive bike valet program so that festival-goers can do their part to reduce their own carbon footprint by riding to the event. Also on tap will be a local farmers market and plenty of organic food choices.

But what about the lineup? Friday will be headlined by Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band will be the showcase act on Saturday, and the Beastie Boys will close the festival out on Sunday night. Also featured will be such acts as Incubus, Thievery Corporation, Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas, The Mars Volta, Jason Mraz, M.I.A., Ween, Modest Mouse and much more. I could go on and on about the extensive list of artists, so check the website for the complete Outside Lands lineup and the full schedule.

Jamie Lynn’s Kandi Coded

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

From YouTube and Volcom Entertainment, here’s Kandi Coded–pro snowboarder Jamie Lynn’s band–performing their not-so-hit song HIV Baby. Don’t expect great audio or video production quality on this one, but it does give us a glimpse of the band and their punk rock sound.
